How the CARE Centre helps nurses educated outside Canada
The CARE Plan for Success

When a person becomes a member of the CARE Centre, she or he meets with a counsellor to set up an individualized CARE Plan for Success.

Everyone has different needs. Some have specific nursing skills that they need to obtain, while others need help juggling family responsibilities and course work. Whatever the need, a CARE Plan for Success will be tailored to them. Here are some of the steps in making a CARE Plan for Success:

  • Write a nursing readiness assessment to find any gaps in clinical knowledge
  • Select the CARE services and training needed to improve knowledge and skills
  • Review career goals
  • Choose a date to take the nursing registration exam

CARE helps nurses to set their goals, review their skills and make their own path to success.

Nurses who join CARE can prepare to take the Canadian nursing registration exam. Even if they have already passed the exam, CARE can help nurses to upgrade their skills and plan their careers.

Nurses who join the CARE Centre can:

  • Learn more about the role of nursing in Ontario's health system
  • Take exam review courses and take part in study sessions
  • Gain experience in health care settings
  • Get advice on how to search for work and prepare for employment
  • Connect with other nurses educated outside Canada in a supportive network
  • Learn nursing terms used in Canada
  • Assess their clinical skills and upgrade or review areas where they still need help
  • Receive personal guidance on their nursing career
  • Build English language skills related to nursing through various language supports, such as English for Nurses classes, workshops, and one-to-one tutoring
